Darius Alexander Rookie Contract Deal With New York Giants: Good for the Team?

The New York Giants have just signed a four year $6.75 million rookie contract with Darius Alexander, selected from the 65th selection, the first of round three. Alexander could be a possible game changer for the New York Giants. Alexander’s performance at the senior bowl was spectacular to say the least and can stand as proof of his talent and skill.

Alexander was named by vote the top defensive linemen at the Senior Bowl by the offensive linemen, which is quite the impressive feat. According to Ryan Roberts, an NFL Draft and CFB analyst, “Toledo DL Darius Alexander has been hard to handle all week” and “Has gotten home from several different alignments. That versatility will be huge for NFL teams.”

Alexander has been proven to be an effective player, with 630 overall snaps and 327 as a pass rusher just last season, which shows his capabilities at the front line. He has a strong set of skills and presence set for him, which can bring him further than rookies typically can, which can help out the New York Giants in future games massively.

Another thing to consider is that the Giants’ interior defense is rather lacking in terms of competition, besides Lawrence, which could be crucial to Alexander as he can get a large workload earlier on than usual to further cement himself, prove his capabilities and effectiveness. It remains to be seen how Alexander plays while with the Giants, however there is a very promising future with him contracted.
