Fantastic 4 Does Fantastically at the Box Office

Marvel has needed a win as of recently, as it’s been clear that the MCU hasn’t been exactly stellar in recent years and it was important that Matt Shakman’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” did well to kick off what’s known as phase six of the MCU. The success of the film was uncertain as it was going up against films such as “Jurassic Word: Rebirth” and the very successful “Superman,” film by James Gunn, however, it ended up having a very successful start to its theatrical run last weekend.

According to Variety, “Marvel‘s latest comic book adaptation has lifted off with $118 million from 4,125 North American theaters over the weekend. Those ticket sales were slightly ahead of expectations of $100 million to $110 million” and that it “collected another $100 million at the international box office for a global total of $218 million.” It managed to snake by “Superman,” with an extra $1 million and while still being beaten out by the impressive total of $465.3 million that “Jurassic World Rebirth,” received, it has set a record for the most successful Marvel film in 2025.

The success of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” isn’t without merit either as many filmgoers has reported being pleasantly surprised at the film’s quality, as according to The Guardian, “This is a Fantastic Four movie that finally figures out why the team works – not because they’re the strongest or the smartest, but because they’re messy, human and weirdly functional in the face of total annihilation” and that “the thing you’ll remember is the squabbling, the love, and the actual screen chemistry.” It’s clear that this movie was a big hit for Marvel and might be a sign that good things may come in the future.
