As a child I loved Lion King so much that my mother taught me how to rewind the tape because I would watch it, rewind it, then watch it again. That is probably true for a lot of children in the 90s. As an adult one of my favorites has now become Frozen. I didn’t even notice the similarities until I saw a youtube video called honest trailers and it was about Frozen.
The video talked about how Elsa ran away because she didn’t want to be queen, made some quirky friends like a talking snowman and her sister coming to find her to save the kingdom from the bad guy that was trying to take it over.
Which the video then, says “wait didn’t we do this movie already, as they showed Simba in similar scenes and in the end also being told to come back to his kingdom to save it from his evil uncle. Now obviously ones a male lion and one is a ice queen but the similarities are there. But that is not why I love them so much.
I love both of those movies because I can relate so much with Simba and Elsa. Run away from responsibility, and then eventually being told to come back to my “kingdom” which is just my home town. I relate to Elsa because she preferred isolation, and I related to Simba because he realized he didn’t want the responsibility of being king. They each are a coming to age stories and so good and the music is just as a good as the stories. There are alot of differences as well but its mostly about the location and one being lions and one being a human.
I would always recommend these two movies over other Disney movies first because they were my childhood and my adulthood. I can still watch them, laugh at the jokes, sing along with the songs and just enjoy it all over again. That is the magic of Disney, its not just for kids.
