The long-awaited new installment to the horror franchise has officially reached $1 billion in box office revenue! Seeing the return of the original cast with the Waynes brothers back as producers, many fans were ecstatic to see what was instore for this horror-comedy parody franchise! And by the numbers alone, fans were not disappointed by the film!
According to Deadline, the film was an undeniable massive hit at the box office. As explained, “The latest Paramount-Miramax reboot, Scary Movie, recently hit the $100M mark at the domestic box office with $100.5M stateside, and $108M abroad for a current global running total of $208.5M in its third week.”
I believe this success was due to the film returning to what made the first film good in the first place: the cast. Despite my personal feelings towards the newest film, the original cast made me laugh a few laughs when watching the film. You can tell that the cast loves working with one another and genuinely wanted to be in the film, instead of feeling obligated to return. And that personally is what really made the film shine.
With the positives in mind, I hope the success of the film teaches the filmmakers to please do not rely solely on the cast. While many fans were hyped to see the film because of the cast, excitement will soon die out if there is little substance in the film. And yes, even for a parody film, there needs to be some sort of substance to keep people entertained.
