Plastic surgery has had a large impact on the beauty industry for decades. For years, popular celebrities and the media have promoted plastic surgery as a way to become a better version of oneself or follow the popular beauty standards. While a majority of these drastic surgeries are still quite popular, the way younger generations are approaching them has changed.
More of Gen Z are now preferring subtle plastic surgeries, operations that only alter the human body in slight ways. Surgeries like the Brazilian butt lift, breast implants and others like it are often much more dangerous than they are worth. Younger generations have seen how many lives are impacted by botched surgeries or even death and are opting for less invasive procedures.
While no surgery is entirely risk-free, younger generations tend to prefer procedures with lower risks. Some of these procedures include Botox injections, fillers, chemical peels and more. These trends have likely been influenced by the rise of Korean beauty products and standards in the West. Now, instead of going for a completely new body and face, many people in Gen Z wish for plastic surgeries to help find their ideal self, to help exemplify the features that they already have.
However, like every beauty standard, these subtle plastic surgery trends come with their own problems. Many still hold preferences for Western face shapes that can leave those with more ethnic features wanting to erase them instead of embracing them.
