Fragrances have recently been put under the hot seat on some viral posts on social media, particularly TikTok. While no one is denying the desire to smell nice, the prices of luxury fragrances, in particular, for many people, are quite ridiculous.
The beauty industry is ever-evolving, with a variety of trends that come and go. That said, most consistent factors in the current beauty industry in general are the incorporation of health and wellness within beauty products. For many people, beauty products shouldn’t just make a person feel nicer but also be beneficial to a person’s body.
This is likely to have been popularized by the increasing influence of K-Beauty within Western markets, which typically treats skin health very seriously, with serums, routines, and collagen masks. Unsurprisingly, fragrances for many don’t seem to fit that bill, especially luxury ones that can cost thousands of dollars. Oftentimes, people who aren’t in the wealth range to afford these items end up not using them as much as they should, due to how expensive they are if they manage to get them.
There is truth to that. Generally speaking, fragrances have no physical health benefits and instead focus heavily on mental and social aspects. People want to smell nice, and good-smelling scents can be great for self-expression or attracting people. That said, fragrances aren’t the only way to make a person smell nice. Many lotions and body washes incorporate scents that can be long-lasting and not be as harsh on the body as fragrances can be, especially when they are handled improperly.
