An upcoming Pinterest feature may be a glimpse into the future of AI integration within the beauty industry for the average consumer. This isn’t the first time Pinterest has used AI technology; much of its search features and personalized ads already use some type of AI technology, in addition to the plethora of AI images already dotting the site. That said, Pinterest’s new “Beauty Guides” focuses AI on the site’s Pins.
The social media company showcased the new Beauty Guides feature on Tuesday, powered by its generative AI technology, Pinterest Intelligence. This feature will make a guide from users’ Pins, giving users information they could use to try and achieve a similar look when they go to hair stylists, nail salons, and more. When this feature launches, it will be able to work on pins for hairstyle, color, nail shape, and finish.
Pinterest’s guides feature is the latest in a variety of AI features being implemented across the beauty-related industries as AI companies continue to try and gain favor with the public. For industries like beauty and fashion, where a majority of their products are physical, it’s been difficult to get customers to adopt AI technology.
That said, avenues like Pinterest guides that focus on incorporating AI technology for customization and assistance, particularly for consumers who don’t know the exact terminology of things they might want, seem like a perfect solution. That said, this feature is obviously Pinterest-exclusive, but there are ways that this could easily be used within image searches on Google or even on products outside of beauty, like fashion, or even in tech.
