This last weekend, protests started across the nation to protest the current president, Donald Trump. This round of protests comes as a second wave of initial protests that were conducted back in June.
The No King’s protests were organized by No King’s, a network of organization who are in direct opposition of President Trump’s agendas and ideology. The organization managed to organize 2,700 events across all 50 states on October 18th, with more than 7 million citizens showing up to the events to either express their protests or observe the gathering. The goal of the gathering was to express one message, that America has no kings.
Many Democrats currently in office came out during the protests and showed their support for the movement. Chuck Schumer, a senator for New York, joined protestors on the streets in New York City and the Governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, spoke with protestors in Chicago, just to name a few. Many elected Democrats came out on Saturday and showed their support for the protests.
While the main purpose for the protests was to show the citizens desire to not have any kings in America, some protesters expressed their displeasure with the current government and their refusal to compromise and reopen the government. Protestors have shown their support for democrats refusing to back down and give in, fighting to keep healthcare prices low. However, they have also shown their displeasure with democrats in office.
Many protestors have spoken out about feeling a lack of unity among the democratic party. They have said that the right feels more unified than them and that are too many old guard in office and it is time for new blood to come in, with a more intimate understanding of modern citizens’ desires.
