Are Disability Benefits Designed for the Reality of Modern Living?

Living on what little jobs gives us right now is hard enough but when you’re disabled it’s even harder. Is what we get from the government enough to live comfortably? The answer is simply, no, we can’t. Everything is more expensive now; food is a necessity but it’s treated as a luxury for how much it costs. If you get food stamps that helps but it’s also not enough if you have a large family and now the requirements are that you have to work, even if it’s not paid.

When I was working a normal job, I was always anxious and barely could afford rent and other expenses. But people on disability benefits can’t even do things they enjoy. They have to save it for bills, and rent to make up for not working. Not to mention that it’s nearly impossible to even get accepted unless you are missing limbs or whatever. It’s not easy to get on it with just depression, anxiety and being neurodivergent, I know, I’ve tried.

I think that they should lower the restrictions of the requirements for disability and they should also raise how much we get. I realize that will get people who are just lazy and don’t want to work to try and apply but that’s where doctors come in, they know if you’re sick or just trying to get mental pills to sell or whatever. Yes, it needs to be easier but not easier for the ones that want to manipulate the system.

I know people who have kids just so they don’t have to work and can have an excuse to stay home. I know people who fake headaches to get out of doing anything for the whole day. Those are the types that don’t deserve it. There are people who are struggling, who can’t do regular jobs and have to work just factory jobs which is hard work and then they get hurt and disability still won’t accept them. The government needs to help us in need, not the ones who fake it.
