Could We Be One Step Closer to Peace?

I think I speak for most, if not all, Americans when I say that the war with Iran needs to end. The destruction of Iranian soil and the deaths of many individuals have created an apprehension regarding the welfare of the world—and Trump’s stubbornness has led several American cries for peace to go unheard. Several discussions have occurred over the past week, and it seems like the once merciless president is now considering coming to an agreement with Iran and putting an end to all war affairs

Before we take a deep dive into Trump’s supposedly progressive conversations with Iranian officials held by mediators, we must first acknowledge the damage that Trump has done through his war initiatives. Trump ordered missiles to strike Iranian forces at the tail end of February, commencing an ill-advised war that has lasted for nearly a month. The Iranian government retaliated through attacks on Israel resulting in the casualties of some of the country’s citizens.

Iranian officials have stated before that they do not want to engage in war with the U.S. but will respond if they are pushed—and after a series of attacks on Tehran, they did just that. While Trump has expressed a slight interest in reconciliation, the President is not shy by any means to attack the country in order to get what he wants.

The President claimed on Monday morning that the U.S. and Iran are in talks of ending the conflict, and that they have had very “productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of hostilities” according to CBS News. While Iran initially denied Trump’s claims at a possible resolution, his comments have sparked potential peace between the two parties. The president stated that the two countries have come to agreements on several different points, and could be a few steps closer to ending the war.

While there has been some sort of agreement between the two, the countries are still at odds over Iran’s uranium enrichment supply. Trump demands that Iran give up all uranium enrichment—and while Iran refutes claims of building a nuclear weapon, they refuse to give up access to their resources.

Hopefully there can be a resolve at some point as the war has caused the deaths of both Iranian citizens and American soldiers. With the president being in agreement with Iranian officials to some degree, it gives our society hope that the conflict won’t escalate to a worldwide demolition and destroy our society any further.
