Why We Like Star Wars

May the Fourth be with you, everyone! The time has come again as we celebrate and appreciate National Star Wars Day! First organized in 2011, based on the pun, “May the Force be with you,” we still recognize and celebrate the day in 2026!

Until recently, May 4th was not a day I recognized. Not really watching much Star Wars television, I often saw May 4th as a day leading up to Cinco de Mayo. But now, having watched the popular television series, “The Mandalorian” (2019), I understand the hype and excitement for all things Star Wars.

I think most fans love to watch Star Wars television series because of the immense creativity and originality that is at the heart of it all. The land created for the many television series was not based on our real life. Rather, they were created from the ground up, using only creativity, imagination, and expression as their only guide in making new worlds.

And with such creativity, it reveals another reason as to why we are like Star wars today: for the escape. When watching Star Wars, we do not have to be bound to the person we are. Instead, we can be heroes, battling heinous villains with our lightsabers and bowcasters! Instead, we can save the galaxy from falling into corruption and wickedness. Instead, we can save the princess from the hands of enemies. But most importantly, we can decide our own destiny.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we return to Star Wars not just on May 4th, but rather every day. Who wouldn’t want to be the hero and join the light side of the Force?
