Ever since the beginning of sports, there has been a divide over which gender can play it. Basketball can be played by both men and women, as well as soccer. Then there is football, baseball, hockey, all seen as a “Manly’ sport. But should women also have the right to play these sports? What about trans males playing football or baseball? Or what about males or Trans females playing volleyball or softball?
Like everything else in the world, such as jobs, games, books, kids’ toys, etc., it shouldn’t be labeled with a gender. Nobody should feel like they can’t do something because it’s a stereotype for one gender or the other. If a little boy can play dress up and a little girl can play with monster trucks, then why can’t a grown woman play football?
We can’t let a child think they can’t play a sport because they are not a certain gender. A little girl seeing her brothers play football will probably want to play too. As well as a little boy seeing his sister play softball. Nobody should feel left out, especially when it comes to sports; it’s hard enough to play sports in P.E
Then there comes the sexuality controversy in sports. Most men who play football are going to be straight, but there is a chance that one could be gay or bi. Is that going to make the others uncomfortable? Regardless of how they feel, that person has the right to play too. It shouldn’t be allowed to rule that discriminates against sexuality because that just leads to a whole bunch of problems and conflicts with coaches, parents, and students.
The world would be a much better place if people would stop stereotyping things like sports and making them gender specific. There is much wrose things to worry about. We need to encourage our children to accept everyone and learn equality when it comes to sports, or anything else that has a controversy when it comes to gender. All Genders Matter!
