Gotham FC To Play At New York City’s First-Ever Soccer Stadium

New York City’s first-ever soccer-focused stadium is set to host the reigning National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) champion, Gotham FC, in Queens. Announced on Tuesday by Gotham FC and New York City FC, the team will start playing home games at Etihad Park starting in 2028.

This announcement is the latest step in both Gotham FC and New York City FC’s vision to transform NYC into a haven for world-class professional soccer across all five boroughs and further commit to better and more accessible environments for Gotham FC’s fans. The 25,000-capacity stadium will open the club to more than 3 million additional people within a 75-minute commute using local public transportation.

“From the earliest days of planning Etihad Park, our vision was for it to be more than the home of New York City FC,” said Marty Edelman, New York City FC Co-Vice Chairman. “We set out to create a venue that would bring the world’s game to the world’s borough and showcase soccer at the highest level, including women’s soccer. Welcoming Gotham FC to Etihad Park is an important step in delivering on that promise and building a world-class home for the game in New York City…”

Set to open to the public in spring 2027, the New York City FC is set to start playing at the Etihad Park stadium at the beginning of the 2027-28 MLS season in July. In addition to New York City FC and Gotham FC, the stadium will host concerts, professional and friendly international soccer events, particularly the 2028 Olympic soccer matches.

Gotham FC is also continuing to develop other sports venues in states like New Jersey. Specifically, the team’s existing training facility in Whippany, New Jersey, was announced in early June 2026 to be converted into a 27,000 sqft high-performance and recovery center for athletes.
