Once Upon a Time: The Show That Rewrote Childhood Nostalgia

Once Upon a Time, the show that took all the stories of the Disney princesses and gave them a new story and had them all related somehow. The show starts with a kid named Henry, the son of a woman named Emma, as her past starts catching up with her. After much convincing and true love’s kiss, Emma saves her son after being poisoned by who he called “the evil queen. You later find out that Emma is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming(David).

This show takes everything you knew about your favorite Disney princesses and gives them new life. You fall in love with your favorite princesses all over again, and you start understanding the villains much better and get their sides of the story. In my case, I got connected with Regina, the evil queen. When she tells her side of the story and what made her want to kill Snow White, you find yourself understanding her; she becomes more human, and she ends up becoming one of the heroes.

Another character that gets a redemption arc is Hook, aka Killian Jones. His story is pretty tragic, but he also ends up being a hero, and Peter Pan becomes an evil character, which to me makes so much sense because he kidnaps children. This show makes you rethink what you thought about heroes and villains and see them from a different perspective.

I love the nostalgia of this show because it takes everything you love about Disney and puts them in one big world. It tells a completely new story for each character and breathes new life into them, and you get excited every time you see a new character show up. Ursula, Cruella, and the witch from The Wizard of Oz, even the Mad Hatter and Rumpelstiltskin are in the mix.

I am always up for being able to see my favorite characters in something new, and I think it also gains new fans. I love the wave of nostalgia it brings me!
