So you are sitting at home scrolling Facebook and you see a clip of an athlete that you recognize, jumping in the air to catch a football and it slips out of their hands. Curious, you check the comments and there is so much hate because they missed the ball and some people even said they no longer like them.
Soon there are videos from youtubers and Facebook streamers talking about it, turning it into memes or just criticizing, all over just missing the ball. That is all it takes to take a successful athlete and turn their life upside down. The internet is very influential and it can turn anyone’s life upside down, whether it be a famous athlete, youtuber, actor or whoever.
That’s the sad thing about the internet though, one clip of a mistake can destroy your life/career. It can happen to anyone, not just athletes. You can be streaming a game and keep getting killed, and then nobody wants to watch someone who is bad at what they place or do. I think that the only way for an athlete at least, to turn a bad viral clip and save their career is to get on social media and talk about it, because everyone makes mistakes and one bad mistake shouldn’t ruin your career.
Now if you are constantly making the same mistakes, it’s bound to catch up to you. But then for athletes they can do really well in the next game and that viral video is usually forgotten like it never happened. Unfortunately there are cruel people out there that make it their job to make others look bad, crooked news reporters or journalists that will do anything to get their work viral.
If there was a way to prevent bad videos from going viral I am sure people would do it. Unfortunately the internet is forever and the truth comes out eventually. Either way I think that athletes, and anyone else should be protected from these kinds of videos, because we are all entitled to privacy and peace of mind.
