Attention all morning commuters, the MTA announced that weekend repairs on multiple subways lines will continue into the morning rush house, which will disrupt the subway service.
The MTA says that they were already demolishing and replacing track as part of scheduled weekend work when the crew discovered cracks underneath the track bed near 81st Street and Central Park West.
Videos that were posted to social media at the subway station by riders over the weekend show large rocks and debris scattered along the local tracks.
The rails have to remain properly supported and stable while trains that weigh hundreds of tons continually move over them. So, before the MTA resumes normal service, they said the area needs significant “shoring.”
Crews are adding temporary structural support to stabilize the area while they make repairs.
The MTA said they are aiming to have full service back by the afternoon rush. A permanent fix will still have to happen later.
These are the current service disruptions:
There will be no rush-hour A service from Rockaway Park Beach 116st to Broach Channel. Commuters should instead use the S train and connect with the A at Broad Channel.
There will be no B trains in the Bronx or Upper Manhattan through Monday. B trains will run via the M line between 47-50th streets and Lexington/63rd Street, then via the Q to and from 96th St/2 Av.
The Downtown C trains will run express from 125th St to 59 St-Columbus Circle through Monday. Uptown C trains will stop locally, but expect delays.
The MTA advises riders to use the !, 2 or 3 lines until the repairs have been made and the trains resume on Monday during the afternoon rush.
