When it comes to young children, there are plenty of activities where they could get hurt or even abused by the adults that are hosting those activities. Such as a priest, or teacher or coach. More than ever we should have background checks on every adult figure in all those types of activities especially when it comes to coaches.
This is a very controversial subject, but most parents would agree that their child’s coach should have background checks because they could do unspeakable acts and what’s worse is that the child would be too embarrassed or scared to tell their parents what happened. Then you see on the news that their coach was arrested for something disgusting and immoral.
The first thing you want to do is question your child. What happened? Why didn’t you speak up? Don’t worry he is gone now. Of course that child probably won’t want to talk about it, which is completely understandable. I know that not every coach out there is doing something this horrible but I’ve seen on TV in true crime shows about coaches and other figures that do that.
Every coach, regardless of their criminal background, or lack of, needs to have a background check because it saves the child the possibility of a situation like that. It just makes ethical sense and it protects the child. Even if the coach never has done something really bad, they could have anger issues and be abusive that way. And no matter what, verbal, physical or psychological, abuse is abuse and children need to be able to escape situations like that.
I also think people like teachers, daycare workers, any job that includes children really, those employees need a background check too. Anyone who works with children (or the elderly) needs to be checked out.
A simple background check could save a child from harm’s way and that is what we should do for our children!
