Movie theater prices seem to be going up every passing year, with ticket prices and menu prices constantly rising. But these prices go up because the biggest rival to theaters is streaming services. Streaming services, over the last decade, especially since COVID-19, have been skyrocketing in usage and adaptability.
Although many people enjoy the unique experience of being in a movie theater with the large film screens, the immersion it gives your senses and the experience of being inside a movie theater.
Many people just find it too much of a hassle between going to the theater and having to actually pay for the ticket, not to mention paying for this can be a 35- to 40-dollar trip to the theater for a single film. Compared to a streaming service, where you can relax in your own home for around 15 dollars and get the same film, especially for those who have no care for the theater experience.
Pretty much nowadays all you need is a device(not even just a television), and you can manage to have your own digital theater. Streaming services, through their own greed and existence, encourage piracy, which further decreases people’s hassle and desire to go out of their way to visit movie theaters.
Theaters, although they have increased the prices, are still losing the battle and are still losing money slowly but surely, with more and more people not coming to theaters and only a few releases getting true blockbuster status. It’s become more of a cultural get-together that happens here and there versus what it once was, being something that people did for the love of it overall.
All in all, movie theaters are something that I love so dearly. I truly think there are few experiences better than seeing a movie premiere or opening night. These are nights that can change someone’s whole perspective on a film if it is good enough. But regardless, the love and passion of a few will hardly outweigh the many, and streaming services have and will continue to slowly close the door on movie theaters one by one around the world.
