The death penalty is one of the most controversial topics in politics, and whether or not to abolish it is the main issue. Now for me I agree with it, some people are just horrible humans and they deserve the electric chair or the lethal injection. But what about the people who didn’t commit the crime, were wrongfully convicted and then had to die?
I am all for people who committed murder to rot in jail for the rest of their lives but I think that if the death penalty was abolished then victims and their families would not have justice and that is the main thing. Then there are the families of the people who died and were wrongfully accused and convicted, they didn’t get justice either. It’s a topic where neither side can win and that is the main issue.
Then there is the people who commit suicide by cop, they don’t want to rot in prison or get the death penalty so they take matters into their own hands and that is not fair to the people they’ve hurt because they don’t get sentenced and don’t have to go to trial and all that other stuff, which is not fair for the ones they have committed the crime against.
The biggest question is that, as the victim, would you want them to sit in jail and rot or get the lethal injection and end it then and there knowing that they’re gone and can’t get out and hurt anyone else because they are not alive anymore. As for the wrongly accused I think that, the authorities should face consequences because if they spent time in jail for something they didn’t commit and then got the death penalty, those family members have to live with that.
In the end I don’t think it should be abolished but I think that the justice system needs to make sure that the accused actually did it to avoid unnecessary sentencing and death, because getting justice for the families is what matters the most.
