Government officials are often and constantly trying to rewrite the world around us. The idea “until the lion learns to write, hunters tell the story”, the people in power will always have control of the narrative. They limit knowledge by banning books and censoring free speech that goes against them and constantly make attempts to recontextualize events. Right wing politicians and political figures are now attempting to rewrite the context and the events that happened regarding the January 6th incident.
This effort to reframe the narrative of the Capitol attack has increasingly grown more and more. They are trying to recreate the story to focus on portraying the rioters as “American Martyrs” heroes of the country. The movement, driven by as mentioned right-wing leaders, conservative media outlets, and President Donald Trump, are trying to change the story behind the widely documented violent insurrection and attack on the Capitol with a soft lie of a peaceful, patriotic gathering targeted by a corrupt political establishment that was taking over and planning to destroy the country with corruption.
The term “American Martyrs” has been prominently featured in pro-Trump media and event spaces to shift public perception of those who were killed or incarcerated for their roles in the Capitol breach amongst the mind controlled cult the President has assembled. The recently released “American Martyrs” Documentary promoted this documentary as the definitive truth about January 6th.Trying to show these constitutional criminals are heroes who were peaceful against the on coming evil regime.
They have also tried changing the legal stances and perceptions around the criminals who were incarcerated for their involvement. They are trying to reframe these people as not criminals who assaulted police officers and government officials but as victims being held as political prisoners. With even a song by the J6 Prison Choir being featured at several Trump rallies.
This senseless rewriting of history is dangerous and as clearly false it is, the cult that President Trump has gathered through his political career under the republican ideal is insane considering how clearly just false it all is. Criminals of that degree should be treated as so and not praised for doing crimes.
