Aaron Rodgers to open Monday Night Football with the NY Jets

Aaron Rodgers is gearing up for his return alongside the New York Jets. According to a recent announcement, Rodgers and the Jets are opening the Monday Night Football game for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ners on September 9.

Born in Chico, California, Rodgers started his professional football career with the Green Bay Packers following the NFL’s 2005 Draft. After nearly 16 successful years with the Packers, Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in April 2023.

According to ESPN, Rodgers’s first 2023 season with the Jets was halted by a torn Achilles during a game against the Buffalo Bills in September, which resulted in him missing the rest of the season. Rodgers had surgery days later and spent the rest of his time recuperating.

Rodgers had spoken about his fears surrounding the injury in an interview with the “I Can Fly” podcast in April. While initially fearing the worst, Rodgers expressed that he was excited and happy to play again.

“I’m excited about playing again,” Rodgers said, “I love playing. I fell back in love with the game and then I had it taken away after four plays. I miss being out there, I love competing.”

“Football is my happy place. That’s where I feel most in control of my athletic ability. I missed that last year, I really, really missed it. My heart was broken. I’m excited about taking the field one more time and — not life or death — going to battle with my guys.”

Rodger’s return will see him returning to Northern California but also for the Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who will be going against his former team. Additionally, Rodgers will be going against former Bills now 49ners defensive end Leonard Floyd. According to ESPN, he was the Bills player who had sacked Rodgers at the beginning of play that had injured him. Floyd had signed onto the 49ers off-season.

Fans can catch the game between the Jets and the 49ers this September on Amazon Prime. Additionally, shortly after that game, the Buffalo Bills will be opening Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, September 12. Fans can watch these games on Amazon Prime.
