Latin Artist of the Month for June 2026
Alejandro Fernández Abarca, nicknamed “El Potrillo”, is one of the most successful Latin music artists of all time, having sold over 20 million records worldwide. His music is known for blending traditional Mexican folk music elements with pop music. In 2005, he was honored for his work with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Fernández was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, on April 24, 1971. His father, Vicente Fernández, was also a famous Mexican singer. As a child, he appeared on his father’s TV shows, and his passion for performing only grew as he got older. He released his first, self-titled, album in 1992. Fernández’s career saw much success, and he has released 18 studio albums, including Piel de Niña (1993), Mi Verdad (1999), Viento a Favor (2007), Confidencias (2013), and most recently, Te Llevo en la Sangre (2024).
Fernández has been nominated for many awards and has won a total of 4 Latin Grammys. In 2000, 2020, and 2024, he won for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album, and he won for Best Ranchero Performance for Mi Verdad in 2000. Fernández is currently on his De Rey a Rey Tour, which is a heartfelt and passionate tribute to his father.
