Latin Artist of the Month for October 2022

Bio

Arca (Alejandra Ghersi) is a musical force to be reckoned with. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Arca was influenced from a young age by Venezualan party music, a genre that would in time, leave an indelible mark on her cutting-edge, radical vision as a globally-renowned artist. To describe Arca’s musical (and personal) style in just a word or two would be a Herculean task, but simply give it a listen, and you’ll know what we mean: infused in her mystifying, dark beats, you’ll find hip-hop, IDM, and noise in an otherworldly and uniquely queer combination that pushes the limits of what it means to be a multi-genre producer. Since gaining momentum from the underground, Arca has produced for the likes of Kanye West, Björk, and Frank Ocean.

Arca’s first full-length album was Xen, released in 2014. Each album and EP after would unfold a continuous path of self-reinvention for the Venezuela native, intensifying the “volatility” and intensity of her sound on Mutant (2015) and Arca (2017), both of which exploded on the underground music scene and in niche LGBT spaces of sites such as Tumblr. Arca has since continuously improved her craft and continues to unleash her fascinating vision unto the world.
