“Astroworld” Was Worse Than We Thought

Netflix recently dropped a new documentary on their streaming service that goes over the tragic event that was Travis Scott’s “Astroworld” concert. “Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy” goes over the 2021 concert in detail. Not only did the documentary reopen the event in people’s minds, but it also shined a light on just how preventable it all would be if the event was better organized.

For those who are unaware of what happened, here is a quick summary. During Travis’s concert in Houston, panic quickly erupted when the crowd became too rowdy, and everyone was packed together like sardines. Due to the overcrowding and suffocation, many people were overwhelmed and began passing out. The concert showed no signs of stopping, which resulted in ten people being killed within the large crowd. It was only after the concert was over that people realized how bad it had gotten.

The documentary goes over many accounts from the people who attended the concert, including some of the staff members. These interviews, along with many video recordings and photos that were taken, displayed that the event was poorly organized and was destined for disaster long before the concert even started. Uninvited guests were climbing over fences to get into the pit of people. Many fans in the crowd pleaded with security and staff to stop the concert. The organizers were quickly blamed for overlooking the danger.

Travis himself has also been blamed for not stopping the event sooner, though he claims that he was unaware of what was happening. His apology video was chastised for not being genuine and avoiding responsibility, which further cast him into the negative spotlight. Travis’s involvement with the tragedy is still being debated to this day. Overall, what should have been a fun time became a hard lesson on the importance of safety and organization. We can only hope that the families of the victims are recovering from this event and that nothing like it will happen again.
