As people around the world eagerly tune in during the kick off of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, three-time figure skating world champion Nathan Chen will be leading the United States team as they look forward to adding onto their previous two bronze medals. This will also be Chen’s opportunity to avenge his 2018 Olympic short program performance that had placed him in fourth place. Lin-Manuel Miranda never fails to amaze crowds with his creative musical talents, and Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has just proved that by racing to the top of the “Hot 100” list, taking Adele’s “Easy on Me” place. “It’s been really amazing because ensemble numbers don’t usually get this kind of love,” Miranda remarked on Billboard‘s Pop Shop Podcast.“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is Disney’s second song to land the top spot on “Hot 100”, though it is the first to do it in 29 years, after Aladdin’s “A Whole New World”, with Brad Kane, Lea Salonga landed No. 1 back in 1993.

19-Year-Old Becomes Youngest Woman to Fly Solo Around the World

At just 19 years old Zara Rutherford has made history as the second youngest person to fly solo across the world, setting a new Guinness World Record as the youngest woman to do so. Rutherford took the title from previous record holder, U.S. aviator Shaesta Waiz, who had accomplished the previous record at the age of 30 in 2017 with her “Dreams Soar” flight. After a 155-day journey that began on the 18th of August 2021, Rutherford landed back where she had started in Kortrijk-Wevelgem airport in Belgium on the 20th of January, 2022.

Texas Schools are banning “controversial” books

A battle has been sprung between parents of young children and conservative politicians in the middle of several Texas school libraries. Back in October of 2021, Rep. Matt Krause has issued a list of 850 books he wanted Texas school libraries to take off of their shelves, due to him thinking these materials might “make students feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any form of psychological distress because of their race or sex.” The bans are taking place following a number of conservative lawmakers and parents alike who had expressed complaints regarding the contents of these books.
