If you have social media, especially TikTok, you’ve probably heard of Colleen Hoover, a very popular author whose books are taking over the internet right now. She mainly writes young adult fiction novels, which always end up on “BookTok,” being reviewed and recommended by readers in the online community. As a BookTok enthusiast, my curiosity got the best of me. After ordering and reading two of her books, “Verity” and “November 9”, I was immediately hooked on her writing style and storylines.
Several of her romance novels have high reviews and have helped secure her place as a New York Times bestselling author. But what makes her novels so much more special than other romance novels? In my humble opinion, the twists and turns of her plots add a thrill to reading her books since they keep you guessing about what happens next.
Her most popular book, “It Ends With Us,” has taken social media by storm because of the tough topics that it covers throughout the story. Mental illness, domestic violence, intense heartbreak, and a spicy romance are just a few of the things that you can look forward to with this one. And she pulls all of it off very successfully. This novel is also going to become a movie in the near future! One which I cannot wait to see.
“Verity,” my personal favorite, is a suspense novel that any mystery fan will be raving about for years. It’s a romance, but the psychological thriller aspects will keep you on the edge of your seat – and thoroughly creeped out. If you love chilling thrillers that make you question your own sanity, this is definitely the book for you.
Hoover’s ability to create characters that readers can attach strong feelings to, such as complete admiration or utter hatred, is truly a talent that some authors fail to accomplish. This makes it seem as if the reader is a character in the book, experiencing the emotions and journey of the protagonists right along with them. This is enough to make readers feel a connection to a specific writing style and keep them hooked on Colleen Hoover’s fantastic novels now and for years to come.
