Gio feels the love as Baseball returns

Gio Urshela has been training and waiting for the return of the game that he loves so much.

Minutes after the announcement that the lockout was over I received a call from my pal and great humanitarian Urshela to get a verification from me that what he heard was real.

I asked him how he felt and he said that it was like the start of the little league season and he couldn’t wait for the umpire to say play ball.

He said that it’s moments like this that makes him understand how much he loves the game. How blessed he is to be able to play professional baseball for the world’s most famous sports team.

He says that being a Yankee and playing for the fans of New York has been a dream come true.

Last year Urshela won the Thurman Munson and the Cristian Rivera humanitarian awards for his community service for helping the people of the Bronx. He has helped a lot of kids play little league even though they could not afford it. If all professional athletes would reach out and help the kids of this country and all over the world I would have to say that things would be a  heck of a lot better.
