Keeping up with the Guardian Angels

Guardian Angels Animal Protection Fighting the Tide to Save Those MOST in Need

6 week old kitty Rajah was brought into the Staten Island Animal Care & Control on Saturday as a stray.  He had a pelvic fracture and was in need of immediate adoption.  Because of his injury he was not available to the public at large and required to ONLY be rescued one of only a few dozen shelter partners of the AC&C.  This absurd regulation makes it very difficult for the hundreds of other qualified rescue groups and individuals to adopt the neediest animals when they need them the most.  But thankfully over the past few years Nancy has been partnered with several such rescue groups who can pull these animals to give them a much needed second chance at life.

Although little was known of kitten Rajah, his prognosis was good.  Given his young age his fracture was anticipated to heal fully with a few weeks of confinement.  And even though in likely much pain he allowed all handling and was anxious for human contact.  Guardian Angels Animal Protection knew we had to save Rajah and were excited to contact the shelter and let them know we wanted Rajah immediately!

But unfortunately Sunday morning was too late.  The shelter had euthanized our beautiful kitten Saturday night, the SAME DAY he was brought in.  There was no reason given for that decision and nobody to question as to why this gorgeous kitten with his whole life ahead of him had been senselessly murdered.  But this is  the side of the shelters in NYC that few get to see.  The NYC kill shelters routinely kill animals in their possession in less than 72 hours but since COVID hit the area their killing spree has increased.  Since March all city shelters have been CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.  Public adoption events have been suspended and animals are being euthanized in frightening numbers with no action by the city or state agencies.  But the Guardian Angels are committed to pulling as many animals in need as possible as we continue to urge people to assist those caring for animals so that they can continue to do so & not be forced to bring their animals to AC&C to die alone.
