I think I’m going out of my head, but Anthony Volpe Sr. is not!

I think I’m going out of my head… is the name of the wonderful song by Little Anthony and the Imperials. If you change the lyrics around a little bit it would be a beautiful love ballad for baseball and the Yankees. However, it is a romantic song for all lovers.

I sat at Ruth Eckerd Hall with Anthony Volpe Sr. Enjoying all the wonderful hits that little Anthony has given the world. After the show, it was a true pleasure to be able to introduce the two Anthony’s to each other. Little Anthony got very excited when he found out that the other Anthony was the grandfather of Yankee shortstop Anthony Volpe. Little Anthony has been a great baseball fan his whole life. I told Little Anthony with a chuckle that the only problem with that statement is that he happens to be a Mets fan. With that being said he appreciates the season that Anthony had during his rookie campaign. He also loved the fact that one of his all-time favorite players, Ozzie Smith had high praise for the Yankees shortstop. Little Anthony said who would know better than The Wizard of Oz.

It was so much fun to watch Little Anthony and Anthony Sr. Actually do a duet of Tears on my pillow backstage. My only problem with that was that I didn’t videotape it. It was a last-minute thing.

All of a sudden Joey Dee from Joey and the Starlighters walked in and all hell broke loose.

Everyone started dancing to Joey’s gigantic mega hit… The Peppermint twist. Joey is another big-time Yankee fan so the baseball conversation lasted until Ruth Eckerd’s boss Bobby Rossi gave us the Michael Corleone (The Godfather) look 👀 that it was time to go. We all laughed. Bobby actually was great as always because nobody likes to talk about the Yankees more than Bobby Rossi. Like me, Bobby adores everything about the late great Bobby Murcer.

All in all a great night at Ruth Eckerd Hall… Thank you for your generous hospitality Bobby Rossi and all the great people at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Little Anthony you are truly a legend as is the great Joey Dee.

I was so happy to be able to share the night with my great friend Anthony Volpe Sr.
