Is Online Beauty Advice Too Dangerous?

The beauty industry has expanded since the creation of the internet and social media, due to being one of the most frequented topics by online users. Thanks to the internet, it has become even easier for makeup tips and tricks to be learnt and products from across the globe to be used. People can learn makeup on their own time without having to spend more time consulting professionals.

Regardless, new technology comes with hundreds of caveats and dangers. Similar to online health advice, anyone and everyone can promote different makeup and beauty advice to online users. Those who aren’t as knowledgeable about these products, primarily those who are young, can wind up hurting themselves.

Recently, a popular TikTok trend has been promoting anti-aging creams and other non-age-inappropriate items for teens to use. This has led to many teenagers unintentionally damaging their skin in an attempt to achieve clear skin.

While there are many reputable beauty influencers online, there are just as many who, unfortunately, lie to their audiences. Online beauty advice is just as dangerous as online medical advice. The internet can easily make everyone feel like an expert, but online users have to be careful not to fall into that trap.

Instead, those interested in participating in beauty trends or taking up beauty advice should consult professionals in the field and research to see if these beauty products are applicable for their bodies.
