Jake Paul Takes Next Step in Boxing Journey with Fury Fight

Jake Paul’s unconventional boxing career might be ready to take a serious turn.

The world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s half-brother Tommy Fury will be the first renowned professional boxer the YouTube influencer-turned-prize fighter will face when they square off on Sunday.

Paul has battled a fellow influencer, a former NBA basketball player, and three MMA fighters since he started boxing in 2018. Each time, he has prevailed, enhancing his already solid reputation.

Fighting Fury is viewed as a step up and is acknowledged by the WBC, which is approving the fight. In fact, the 26-year-old Paul, a blond, bearded social media sensation, will be given a spot in the WBC cruiserweight world rankings if he prevails.

“Jake has dedication and respect to the sport,” the sanctioning body said, “and the WBC will not tolerate discrimination against anyone. He deserves the opportunities that any other boxer has.”

It’s unlikely that this move will be well-liked by boxing purists.

Paul, though, is not really a part of those circles or aiming to appeal to that group. Given that the bout versus Fury has earned pay-per-view status and is regarded as significant enough to be held for significant financial reward outside of Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, he has carved out a very different road into the world of boxing and is succeeding at it.

Paul, who became well-known through Vine videos and his role as Bizaardvark on the Disney Channel, entered the pro boxing ranks in 2019 and declared he is “as serious as it gets” about the sport. He claims that a 30-person crew is assisting him with his training, which is done primarily at the native of Cleveland’s home.

His ultimate objective is to win a world championship in boxing, even though it seemed even farther away after it was revealed in January that Paul had signed a contract to compete in mixed martial arts with the Professional Fighters League.

Fury undoubtedly doesn’t regard his opponent as a serious boxer.

In addition to being the half-brother of one of the most well-known boxers in the world and from a line of bare-knuckle warriors, Fury also has an intriguing past.

The 23-year-old British man really rose to fame in 2019 after participating in the dating reality TV series Love Island. Since he had only fought twice at that point, he was forced to put his boxing career on hiatus for nine months. As a result, he is now married to Molly-Mae Hague, a British social media influencer with whom Fury placed second on Love Island.

Fury boasts an 8-0 boxing record, although he has never engaged in a fight that lasted more than six rounds. In that way, he is also stepping into the unknown this weekend, at least in terms of his opponent’s international appeal. Paul has 4.5 million Twitter followers and 22 million Instagram followers.

The fight was previously scheduled for December 2021, but Fury had to cancel due to illness and injury. The bout was then rescheduled for August 2022, but Fury once again had to cancel due to travel complications entering the United States.

Before the catchweight fight, Tyson Fury gave his half-brother a kind of deadline. The fight will go eight rounds.

“I expect Tommy to chin him,” he told British radio station talkSPORT. “If he doesn’t, he can stay in Saudi Arabia.”
