Joell Ortiz recently expressed his confusion over the comment of Big Pun’s widow Liza Rios, who claimed Joell Ortiz’s “Big Pun’s Back” was “disrespectful”. According to Ortiz, Liza once told him that Big Pun “would have been so proud of [you],” which is the reason for his confusion. Joell states that he does not mean any disrespect with his song and that he has been paying his respects to her late husband since the beginning of his career. “This is not the first time I’ve ever done a tribute.” The Brooklyn native expressed the same confusion regarding Tony Sunshine and Cuban Link’s reaction to the song when both expressed similar feelings to Liza Rios. Being that he had worked with them before on past projects, Joell was surprised that they would confuse the song for anything other than a tribute. In an interview with Funkmaster Flex, Ortiz simply stated, “I don’t have to check in with anyone about anything. I did it for Big Pun to keep his legacy alive. That’s it.”
