Joker Sequel breaks unfortunate record

The sequel to 2019’s Joker, titled Joker: Folie a Deux, hit theatres this weekend. The film has been given horrendous ratings despite the massive success of the original.

According to the official CinemaScore website, Joker 2 has earned a Cinema Score of D. This is the lowest grade for any comic book film ever. It broke the record previously held by 2015’s version of the Fantastic Four, which had a C-. Shockingly, the film so far has done worse than both Madame Web and Morbius, two films widely considered to be the worst comic movies released in the last three years.

Other reviews of the film include 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, 5.3/10 on IMDb, 45% on Metacritic, and a 1.7/5 Google audience rating.

During opening weekend, the film opened with just 40 million dollars, less than half of what the first film did in its first weekend back in 2019. For further comparison, the budget for Folie a Deux was $200 million while the first movie was $55 million. According to Variety,

The sequel must make a minimum of $450 million to break even. For anyone looking to help them reach that mark, the movie is in theatres now.
