Margaret Eleanor Atwood was born Nov 18, 1939 and is a Canadian novelist, poet, literary critic, and inventor. She has published 18 book of poetry, 18 novels, 11 books of nonfiction, 9 collections of short fiction, 8 children’s books and 2 graphic novels. 

 

She is known for her 1985 dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale and has won numerous awards and honors for her writing, including two brooker Prizes, the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Order of Canada, the Franz Kafka Prize, the Prince of Asturias Award and the National Book Critics. 

 

Her recent books have been Book of Lives released in 2025,Paper Boat which was released in 2024 and she was given a Honorary degree at University of York in 2025. As well as the Eleanor Roosevelt Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025.
