Mary Harron is a Canadian director and screenwriter. In the 1970s she wrote for the New York Punk magazine, among others such as The Village Voice, The Guardian, and The Observer. She started her film career with British documentaries and satirical skits for the BBC.

Her first film, I Shot Andy Warhol, was released in 1996, but she is perhaps best known for directing and co-writing the 2000 film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho, starring Christian Bale. Other films she has directed include The Notorious Bettie Page (2005), The Moth Diaries (2011), Charlie Says (2018), the miniseries Alias Grace (2017), and episodes of series including Six Feet Under, Oz, and Big Love.
