The Yankees have always been known for their certain sense of timeless style. The pinstripes are iconic, and were what George Steinbrenner, and now the Steinbrenner family, have prided themselves are and have kept intact while many other teams try and ride fashion trends.

It was with that in mind that I stopped at the NHL Store on Monday to see two legends of the game, Martin Brodeur and Mike Richter, sporting some of the classiest outwear we have seen in some time. They were there as the NHL Store kicked off the holiday season by unveiling the Legends Collection, a custom-designed series of bomber jackets…what Yankee doesn’t love Bombers…with the artistry of some of hockey’s greats front and back. The collection is the vision of FE Design’s president Bill Chang, who worked with the league and the NHL Retired Players Association to create something very special and high-end for hockey fans.
The limited-edition line of collectible reversible bomber jackets honors the careers of NHL Legends like Richter, Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky, Brodeur, and more with a unique blend of style, nostalgia, and craftsmanship. Only 99 pieces of each legend’s jacket have been created, with each style individually numbered from 1 to 99 – making them a rare and coveted addition to any fan’s wardrobe. The jacket is the first style in a growing line that will also include hoodies, each designed to blend the culture and heritage of hockey with contemporary, cutting-edge fashion trends. The jackets are available on the FE Website and at the NHL Shop NYC store in Manhattan.
“It has such a wow factor, and the fact that they are made with sustainable material at such a high end makes it even more impressive,” Richter said. “Sports and fashion are so intertwined these days, I can’t see how if you are a fan of any of these teams you would not have these on a wish list.”
The wish for FE is to expose high-end fashion to more hockey fans, and by launching these carefully tailored and constructed pieces of history, the fans will take even more pride in those who forged their fandom. “I love how these jackets are created and the story they tell,” Brodeur added. “It is something that I’m honored to be a part of as this launches.”
While FE is just starting their venture into sports with hockey, it’s hard to see how these custom pieces can’t fit other sports. Heck, they could do a whole Yankees line on their own!
