You have to love Brandon Nimmo.
He is definitely one of the most uplifting people you will ever come across in the game of baseball. I met him for the first time last year at Citi Field when he didn’t know me from Adam yet was one of the most accommodating people when we first met and I asked him a question for an article that I was writing.
Last week I was visiting Darryl Strawberry for his 63rd birthday in Port St. Lucie.
It was a great celebration for one of the game’s most wonderful people. The love and adulation that the Straw Man received was amazing. What he means to so many people is a thing of beauty.
The following day I ran into Nimmo at the Mets camp. I asked him what Darryl meant to the team during the spring. Nimmo responded by saying that Darryl means a lot to so many players there.
Nimmo said that Strawberry is truly a mentor to him. The greatness of Darryl is that he’s fallen and yet has come back stronger than ever. Nimmo also said that Strawberry is never afraid to let us know the importance of what God has done for us. Nimmo loves the fact that Strawberry tours around the country preaching and teaching the gospel of the Lord.
Nimmo has become an admirer of Juan Soto. He loves his whole work ethic both on the field and in the batting cage. He said that he has played against him for years however to share the same uniform has been great. He really is looking forward to playing together with this so called generational talent for a long time.
Oh and by the way, congratulations are definitely in order because Mr. Nimmo has been celebrating the arrival of his first child Tatum Jane, a beautiful little girl.
From what I have seen of this young man and very talented baseball player, I’m sure that he will be a great daddy to little Tatum.
