An expansion for the Reconnect programs for SUNY and CUNY was recently announced by New York Governor Kathy Hochul. Since the program’s launch in 2025, the reconnect programs have enrolled over 12,000 students to reunite adults with education and help bolster the state’s economy and workforce. The Reconnect program is open to adults of all academic backgrounds and life, whether they need school credits, want to change career paths, or finally have a chance to pursue education.
According to Hochul, the new budget is aimed at boosting New York’s healthcare workforce, specifically nursing, by 20%. Additionally, the budget expands certain eligible associate degree programs at bachelor’s institutions within SUNY and CUNY, including SUNY Canton, Alfred State, SUNY Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill, SUNY Delhi, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF), and more.
Additionally, this new budget provides eligible students between 25 and 55 with free tuition, fees, books, and supplies. “The cost of a college degree should never be a barrier for New Yorkers,” said Governor Hochul. “Through the expansion of SUNY Reconnect and CUNY Reconnect, education will be made affordable and accessible for more of our adult learners…”
The SUNY and CUNY Reconnect programs‘ Advanced Manufacturing fund degrees within in-demand fields, including Air Traffic Control and Aviation Management, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Supply Chain/Logistics, Technology, Nursing, and more.
