Flashback Artist of the Month for December 2020

Bio

OutKast consisted of the iconic members, Andre Benjamin, and Antwan Patton. This American hip hop duo was first formed in 1992 in Georgia while the pair was still in High School. While they did start their music career at a young age, they went onto sign with Organized Noize, which was a group of local producers. Later in their careers, they became the first hip hop act to sign with LaFace Records. Their music consists of different genres, including funk, jazz, and techno.

 

In 1992, the duo released their first debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik and in 2000, they released the album Stankonia, which contained the infamous song, “Miss Jackson”. Additionally, the group produced the well-known song “Hey Ya!”.

 

OutKast also won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year for their double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. This Grammy would become one of six Grammys they receive during their career. They have sold more than 25 million records and have received much praise from large publications like Rolling Stone.
