Piers Morgan Leaves Good Morning Britain

Controversial British TV host Piers Morgan had a lot to say about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. While discussing the interview on his show, Good Morning Britain, on Monday, Morgan blatantly said that he didn’t believe any of Markle’s statements, which included her reveal of experiencing suicidal thoughts and the royal family’s refusal to help her. “I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report,” Morgan said. His co-host Susanna Reid was quick to jump on this statement, saying, “That’s a pathetic reaction to someone who has expressed those thoughts.”

On Tuesday morning’s show, Morgan backtracked a bit, saying that he does believe mental health is an important issue. However, he stormed out of the show when presenter Alex Beresford addressed Morgan’s mistreatment of Markle, as well as his former friendship with her, and how that might be influencing his words. “I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle. You’ve made that so clear a number of times on this program,” said Beresford. “I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.” Morgan then stormed off the set, refusing to continue the discussion.

Following 41,000 complaints regarding Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, broadcasting regulator Ofcom launched an investigation into Morgan’s remarks. Morgan will no longer be a host of the show, according to an announcement by  ITV. “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” reads the statement from the broadcaster. Reportedly, Markle herself filed a complaint about Morgan to ITV on Monday. Morgan, however, has not let up, and took to Twitter this morning to make his stance very clear. “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t,” he tweeted. “ If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
