Rihanna called out for including Johnny Depp in her coming Savage X Fenty fashion show

Johnny Depp is currently promoting his latest project.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 59, teased his appearance in Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 fashion show, which is now available to stream on Prime Video, with an Instagram video on Wednesday.

The clip shows the Golden Globes winner cast in technicolor lights staring into the camera. Depp also wears sunglasses and a button-down shirt with a revealing chest and layers of silver chain necklaces. Over one million people have liked the post.

“Thank you @badgalriri #SAVAGEFENTYSHOW Vol.4 Out Now @primevideo,” he wrote.

The brief clip gives a glimpse of Depp’s mystical segment, in which he walks through a misty forest while listening to Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean.”

TMZ first reported Depp’s cameo appearance days before the show, which was later confirmed by PEOPLE.

According to a source, Rihanna and her team “invited” Depp to participate in the show, and both teams were “excited to make it happen.” According to TMZ, Depp is the “first male in the history of the Savage X Fenty show to take the role.”

While fans have expressed excitement and support for Depp’s fashion spot (including Paris Hilton, who commented with a fire emoji on his Instagram post), some have spoken out against the contentious collaboration.

Olly Alexander of Years and Years took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with the Grammy winner’s brand.

On November 3, he quoted PopCrave’s news and added an exaggerated sad face. When a fan commented, “But, “Savage X Fenty” is you baby……. you wear it so well,” Alexander responded, “thank you, but after this news, I won’t be wearing it anymore,” despite his previous work with the brand, which included a paid Instagram partnership in February.

Aside from Rihanna’s celebrity-studded fashion show, Depp has made several on-screen appearances since winning his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.

In August, he made a surprise appearance at the MTV VMAs, with his face digitally superimposed into the helmet of a floating moon person. “And you know what? I needed the work,” During one of his skits, Depp told the audience.

The appearance came months after a seven-person jury found that Heard defamed Depp in her 2018 Washington Post op-ed about domestic violence, though she did not name him. He was awarded damages in excess of $10 million. Meanwhile, Heard was awarded $2 million for one of her three defamation countersuit claims.

After Judge Penney Azcarate denied Heard’s request for a mistrial, Depp’s legal team announced that they would also be appealing her countersuit verdict. Depp’s attorneys filed paperwork last week to appeal Heard’s $2 million countersuit, calling the verdict “erroneous.”
