Russell Wilson Traded from Seattle Seahawks to Denver Broncos

The Seattle Seahawks have officially traded Quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, making it one of the biggest trades in NFL history. After weeks of talks, this trade was made official early Wednesday morning, right before the start of the new league year. Additionally, the Seahawks will send another 2022 fourth-round pick to Denver in addition to Wilson.

This deal will be the first time the Seahawks will reset a quarterback in over a decade since Wilson, a third-round pick in the 2012 draft. Along with Wilson, the Broncos have agreed to send a noteworthy package of players and draft picks to the Seahawks in exchange for Wilson, according to ESPN.

Since losing Peyton Manning, this gives the Broncos a sought-after quarterback they’ve been looking for for years, giving them the foundation they need to rebuild their team just in time for the new league season.

The chair of the Seattle Seahawks has stated, “While Russell made it clear he wanted this change, he made Seattle proud, and we are grateful for his decade of leadership on and off the field. We look forward to welcoming our new players and to everyone being fully engaged while working our hardest to win every single day. I trust our leadership to take us into the future, and know we all wish Russell the very best.”

With Wilson’s help, the Seahawks made the playoffs in Wilson’s first season. After that, he was a part of the best season that the franchise has had and ended up winning the Super Bowl in 2013. Similarly, the Seahawks played in the Superbowl the following season. Correspondingly, Wilson’s victories in the postseason are the most in NFL history by any quarterback.

Wilson is a great asset and will be a great asset to the Denver Broncos; as the head coach has stated, “As Jody stated, Russ’ desire in doing something different afforded the organization an opportunity to compete in multiple ways. He has always been the ultimate competitor whose leadership and consistency helped shape our culture. Our franchise has won a lot of games, and we will always be grateful for the exciting moments and incredible records.”
