San Francisco Portola Music Festival

Promoter of Coachella, Goldenvoice, now brings Portola Music Festival, to be held at Pier 80 on September 24 and 25. This new fall music festival will have artists like Flume and The Chemical Brothers on its inaugural lineup.

The official ticket presale will start in just 3 days, on Friday, May 20, 2022, on the Portola website. Presale tickets will begin at 10 am PST. The website also states that the general sale will start at 2 pm that same day.

The event’s name references back to the Portola Festival of 1909, which marked the reopening of the city after the 1906 earthquake and attracted about 1 million people.

The spirit behind this new music festival is to honor electronic music, a void left behind by the other two massive festivals taking place in the same city, Outside Lands and Hardly Strictly. Dance music fans will be happy to know Flume and Chemical Brothers are headlining the festival, and there is a strong second tier of artists including Kaytranada, George FitzGerald, Jamie xx, Jungle, Charlie XCX, M.I.A., and James Blake.

Outside Lands’ 2022 lineup includes Green Day, Post Malone, and Jack Harlow, while Too $hort and Toro y Moi are among the Stern Grove performers. Toro y Moi, who just released their new album “Mahal” will also be performing on Sunday, September 25th in Portola, on the same day as Four Tet + Floating Points, Blessed Madonna and Danilo. Kelly Lee Owens, Ross From Friends, and Yaeji represent the next generation of electronic music producers, while DJ Shadow and Fatboy Slim are among the performers from the earliest dance generation.

Yaeji said on Twitter, “Onions! excited to come back to San Francisco, on September 25th to play a new fest Portola Festival.” The Chemical Brothers and Toro y Moi also took it to Twitter to express their gratitude for coming back to the city: “San Francisco, can’t wait to play the first-ever Portola Festival, this September.”

Caribou, The Bicep, and The Avalanches are also in the lineup for Saturday 24, along JamieXX, Jungle, Charli XCX, Gorgon City, and Omar Apollo.

Single-day passes cost $199.95 and two-day passes cost $299.95. The venue doors will open at noon on both days. It is required for attendees to be at least 21 years old to enter. On the website, you can also find the full lineup information for both days as well as details about the festival, what to bring and what not to bring that day.
