So you are watching TV, and a breaking news reporter starts talking about some famous athlete that had been accused of some vicious crime and is awaiting trial and is not allowed to compete in the next big game, and if you are a sports fan, I imagine you are not too happy about this, but as someone who is indifferent to them, I would just be happy that they can’t hurt anyone else.
Okay, so I get that this topic is probably a pretty controversial one, but in my opinion, anyone who is awaiting trial for a serious crime shouldn’t have any privileges despite whatever crime they did. They are criminals and do not have rights to anything, and they should be sitting in a jail cell and not enjoying a game or anything, for that matter.. I would say they would be able to watch the game but not compete in the game.
Unless the crime was something like petty theft, I consider any crime to be bad, and the consequences of your actions should be your rights being taken away. You wouldn’t let a police officer who killed someone in cold blood carry a gun anymore. Why is an athlete any different? They should not have immunity. No criminal should get immunity.
Now, if their coach and officials on the case say that the crime isn’t so bad, like it was theft or something, then I can understand letting them compete. I mean, actors can do some pretty crazy things, things they should lose fans because of, but don’t. o. Some fans are very dedicated to music artists, actors, and actresses, so I guess athletes should get the same treatment.
The only thing I would be worried about is that some kids look up to athletes, and if they commit a crime, I wouldn’t want that child to believe that they can do it because their hero “did it.” Children need good role models, not criminals who look like heroes.
