Should Professional Athletes’ Salaries Be Capped?

We all know that professional athletes’ salaries are really high, and I can understand, given the injuries they go through, their legs being broken, knocked out teeth, etc. But even then, they should get a limited salary. It’s definitely not fair if someone who is better and makes more goals or whatever gets more than any other teammates. Right now, on average, they make about 150 million a year for a professional athlete. And a top tier makes around 700 million a year, which is very unfair.

I don’t even think they should make that much, despite the injuries and everything; they chose the life of being a professional athlete. College and high school athletes do not even get paid, yet they get just as many injuries and need to pay for travel and equipment, so they should at least get some type of compensation.

I can see it from another perspective, though. If someone was making goal after goal, whether it be American football or soccer, or whatever else, and they are the reason their team keeps winning, then yes, I suppose they should earn more than another player. That can cause fights, however, if one athlete can’t afford medical bills because he didn’t make as many points as the other guy.

The world of sports is pretty dangerous, and I can definitely understand why they get so much, and I understand why they keep doing it, for their fans. If we cap the salaries and make everyone equal, it could result into a all out riot or strike where they refuse to play if they don’t get as much money as they promised. However, that probably would never happen because they sign contracts that protect them from leaving a team and not having their money go lower. I am guessing that if they were to get their contract broken, there would be a giant lawsuit. So I think that it would be better to just keep their salaries where they are to avoid conflict and so they can keep the fans happy.
