Sports Documentaries Are Turning Non-Fans Into Fans

When you are someone that doesn’t care about sports you are not going to know much about the athletes who play those sports. But imagine you’re skimming through YouTube or Netflix and you see a documentary about Micheal Jordan. You are curious so you start watching it and it goes into the details of his life, such as where he’s from, his family, why he got into sports and more. Now you see him in a new way, he’s not just an athlete he’s a real person, with a personal life.

Once you realize that, you want to know about more well-known athletes, and even if you don’t want to watch actual games you can watch highlights and can get a sense of what they are capable of without having to watch actual games. I personally don’t watch sports but I’ve seen movies like Space Jam or The Blind side that made me at least appreciate the sports and I find them a lot more rewarding to watch than actual games.

Documentaries are great for a lot of things and sports are no different so someone like me who has no luck in playing sports and has no interest in watching them on TV or live, this really helps me and also it helps me be able talk about sports to family or friends who are really into it and so I can actually feel involved in the conversation rather than feel left out or ignored.

It doesn’t have to be just one player either, it can be the coach, or about the sport itself and how it’s evolved over the years, or talk about teams that won the world series or Superbowl, it can even just explain the rules of the game and how to play the sport if you just don’t understand how the games work or want to play it but don’t know how. They can get even children to be more interested in it and maybe want to play the sport if they showed no interest in it before.
