The Essential Role of Soundtracks in Movies (Op-Ed)

Have you ever found yourself daydreaming about your life having a soundtrack, as if every moment was accompanied by the perfect song? There’s a reason for that. Music has an incredible power to bring images to life and evoke emotions. In movies, this power is used to craft a magic experience that captivates audiences.

A good soundtrack is more than just background noise; it’s a storyteller. It manipulates our emotions, enhances the impact of visual images, and helps us connect with the characters on screen. Think about it- have you ever watched a scene in a movie and felt like you were right there with the characters, experiencing every emotion alongside them? That’s the magic of a well-designed soundtrack.

Imagine a scene without music. It might feel flat, lacking depth and emotion. However, add the right soundtrack, and suddenly, you’re transported into the soul of the characters. You feel their joy, their pain, their fear. It’s as if the music narrates all their thoughts, empathizing with the experience.

The film “Jaws,” directed by Steven Spielberg, is a prime example. John Williams’ renowned score ensures that the eponymous shark, who appears on screen only a few times, is ever-present. Long after the credits have rolled, the dreadful theme’s ever-increasing speed stays with you. This shows how music can make people anxious and scared, even when they can’t see the danger.

On the other hand, tension and dread are not the only themes. Movie scores have several functions, such as establishing the mood and hinting to future events. It leads the listener through the plot with lyrical undertones and dramatic orchestrations, revealing important details about the characters’ personalities and inner thoughts.

Music in movies is a way for the characters to express themselves. It reaches us at our most fundamental level, touching us wherever we are without the need for words. Incorporating it into our movie experience enhances it by bringing us closer to the on screen environment.

Therefore, the next time you’re engrossed in a film, focus on the score. Learn how it enriches the narrative, taking you on a profound emotional trip rather than just looking at pictures. Soundtracks are more than simple music in the film industry; they are the driving force behind the tale, adding energy and feeling to every scene.
