In the 42 year history of the Guardian Angels the closing of this 24 hour criminal hotspot hotel is one of our greatest achievements. The community was in total peril. For a year none of the existing government agencies would do anything about it. Different Guardian Angels patrols took shifts in and around the hotel, handing out fliers of the wanted suspects in the New Year’s killings & shooting in front of the hotel. The community coalesced around our effort and soon all the government agencies that chose to do nothing before all of the sudden found the will to get the job done. On Thursday night the management removed the hotel sign on the top of the building and by Friday night they were flying the flag of surrender and saying they were closed. The community couldn’t be more grateful for the effort we put forth.
In addition, we have generated leads about the whereabouts of the perps wanted in the shooting. We have provided photos and addresses and are pressing the issue with the NYPD. Our job will not be complete until those responsible for the shooting and killing are arrested. Other communities will learn that when all else fails, the Guardian Angels will ride to the communities rescue as we have for 42 years.
