Social media has been flooded with positive experiences from World Cup tourists, who are experiencing culture shock and hanging out with American locals.
While the transportation issues haven’t been unavoidable, it is undeniable to say that overall, the event has so far been exciting for everyone. It’s a fact that has many Americans mystified and cautiously optimistic.
The reputation of the United States has been put through the wringer in the past few years due to its politics and the actions of the Trump administration. For many Americans, they’ve been hard-pressed to have any hope or joy within this country. So, seeing the positive interactions the tourists and sports teams have been having has led to people having a bit more hope in their fellow countrymen.
Additionally, it’s given Europeans and the rest of the world a real look into the temperament and lives of the American people. Looking back on it, many people are now applauding FIFA’s choice of host towns and cities within the United States. It allowed tourists to be able to see destinations most wouldn’t see if they were only placed in the most well-known American cities.
It’s easy to conflait the local populous to the actions of their government, but we have to remember that not everyone is the same and that all people are capable of embracing each other no matter their culture.
