Trump Organization Charged with Tax Crimes

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is expected to bring criminal charges against former President Donald Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, as soon as Thursday.

The Trump Organization’s legal team expects the company to be accused of tax crimes related to alleged failures to pay taxes on corporate benefits and perks, including cars, apartment buildings, and school tuition provided to its employees for several years.

Even though Trump himself faced multiple federal and state prosecutorial inquiries during and after his administration, this would mark the first time the district attorney’s office would charge his company with criminal conduct.

According to Trump’s lawyer, Ronald Fischetti, Trump himself is not expected to be charged. Fischetti said, “They didn’t use the word ‘fringe benefits’ or anything like that, but they alleged improper benefits that were conferred on some of the high-ranking individuals in the Trump Organization.”

Attorneys for the Trump Organization plan to immediately dismiss the case in court and feel the prosecutors would be unable to prove Weisselberg and former President Trump had any knowledge of granting these benefits to specific employees.

Fischetti added that he believes the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has “no evidence whatsoever,” and they have full intent to win the case.
